>YORK TO MANCHESTER

//

This roll includes the final photos from York and the beginning of photos from Manchester.

If you’ve engaged with my previous rolls, you’ll know that I don’t normally photograph people. I used to consider my style of photography as street, but I’ve since realised that street photography – whilst not always needing people – at the very least showcases human presence.

My style of photography is urban. It showcases places and atmosphere. While people may make an appearance, they are not the main focus. That’s the case in this roll too – although it’s unusual for any people to be in my shots, Manchester proved difficult to shoot with this stipulation in mind. While I might prefer the people weren’t there, they do perhaps add to the dynamic.

Why the aversion to people? I’m not entirely sure. I’m naturally introverted, and there’s an inherent awkwardness in shooting people candidly. I also appreciate minimalism – candid shots of people offer less control of composition and of any balance I might be seeking to strike.
